Any boat will handle better if the weight is evenly distributed. The last thing you want is passengers getting uneasy and nervous because their being told to move around. That will compound the issue. If you need to move someone to keep the bow up in swells for example then do so calmly. Keep it balanced and head to a safe area ASAP.
Go to shore
The boat will probably rock back and forth, and you don't want people to fly off deck.
Drop a sea anchor off the bow.
If caught in a severe storm while on your boat, immediately seek safe harbor if possible. If returning to shore is not an option, secure all gear and ensure passengers are wearing life jackets. Head into the waves at a 45-degree angle to minimize swamping and maintain control of the vessel. Stay calm, monitor weather updates, and be prepared to follow emergency procedures.
