It all depends on the context. But on the whole: 'forward' is from left to right, the way we read writing.
The left and right side of the vehicle is determined as if you are sitting in it facing forward. Left is the driver side and right is the passenger side.
You can achieve this by standing with your torso facing forward and bending at the waist. Leaning forward allows you to reach your left pocket with your left hand and your right pocket with your right hand without crossing your arms. Alternatively, you can also position your hands diagonally to each pocket without crossing them in front of your body.
