ELPT on a 50hp Mercury 4-stroke outboard stands for "Electric Start, Long Shaft, Power Trim." This designation indicates that the outboard features an electric starting system, a longer shaft length suitable for larger boats, and a power trim feature that allows for easy adjustment of the motor's angle while underway. These features enhance the convenience and performance of the outboard in various boating conditions.
Depending on condition. does it have tilt and trim, are the throttle controls with etc .. between 600-1000 If in good condition. Hope this helps

When wired correctly, the smaller trim buttons are designed to operate through the trim cycle only. The larger tilt / trailer button is used to tilt the outdrive up, for clearance when trailering the boat.
I have the same motor. Johnson - 50hp - Power tilt & trim - 20 in. shaft - 9 - 9 - Model suffix The ee is the two digit year '99 I have this motor too-it was 99 model year and mine was manufactured in June 1998.
I did some looking into this and found two things. First, OMC seems to have never changed the design of the tilt trim system from year to year. It worked, so why try fixing it? The second is, the same tilt trim is used on 60 thru 115 horse motors. So yes, the tilt trim from your old 70 hp motor will fit your new 60 hp one.
The weight of a 1979 70 HP Mercury outboard with 20 inch shaft, power tilt and trim is 239 pounds. I would expect the somewhat newer motor to weigh about 5-10 pounds more. Hope this helps.
It's not recommended to use Sea Star hydraulic steering fluid for tilt trim systems, as they are designed for different purposes and may have different chemical compositions. Using the wrong fluid can lead to equipment damage or reduced performance. Always refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for the appropriate fluid type for your specific tilt trim system.
