The union used there only submarine to combat the hunley that the confederate built.but it also would have ben used to stack confederate ships and ports along tge coast
Both the Union and the Confederate had submarines, but the Confederate used them more often.
Submarines typically use air tanks. Oxygen is very dangerous and very flammable. It's use is very limited on submarines for that reason.
The Confederacy led in the experimentation with submarines. The most successful was the HL Hunley. The inventor was killed in a test dive with his new and imaginative war vessel. The Confederate submarine sank the Federal warshipthe USS Housatonic in the Charleston harbor. The submarine, however, was dragged down by the sinking Housatonic. The Confederacy decided to end experimentation with submarines after that. The Union had no submarines.
submarines and bats both use sonar. Calvin was here
oceanographers use submarines to take pictures of sea life and things that have been found or things that they are looking for.
The marines do not use submarines. Only the Navy does.
Most submarines have propellers that spin, pushing them forward. A few smaller research submarines use a water jet for propulsion.
The Germans were the first to use Submarines in World War 1. Now i believe that the marines now do at times.
During the American Revolution, the Colonists tried to use a submarine called The Turtle to sink a British warship in New York harbor. The English ship had a metal plate attached to it, and the attack failed. During the USA civil war, the South, (Confederate States), tried to use submarines to break the Union blockade, but, although they sank one Northern ship, the sub also sank, and it was not worth the effort. The German use of submarines in WWI, was the first time a country made an effective use of the boats, and from then on, many countries with navies tried to get submarines in the fleet.
