I'm an experianced cruise ship crew member. A refit is a maintenance period. Most ships have about one week every two years...but it varies. A "WETDOCK" is usually less than one week and involves routine maintenance. A "DRYDOCK" involves taking the ship out of water for at least a few days and involves heavy maintencance. Most of these are planned years in advance but sometimes have to be scheduled at short notice (an unscheduled "refit" means somehting is badly wrong!!).
The Noordam, a Holland America Line cruise ship, was last refitted in 2018. During this dry dock, the ship underwent various upgrades and enhancements to its amenities and interiors. This refit aimed to improve the overall guest experience and refresh the ship's appearance.
