The Merc's seem to perform better with NGK brand plugs installed. The 1974 model, 50 hp, good ol in-line 4, requires an NGK BUHW. If you go with a Champion brand plug, originally installed, use a L76V. Both plugs are perma-gap type, so no adjustment required.
