Nobody named Yacht invented the term, it comes from the Dutch StatenJacht- state Yacht actually something akin to a patrol craft used by the Coast Guard- for patrolling coastal waters. Jacht- Dutch spellilng is related to German Jagd- to Hunt- and in a sense the English slang Jag! From a chasing or hunting patrol vessel to a sportive one with the eye on speed- hence Racing Yacht it is a logical etymology.
