The best place I have found to purchase an RC boat kit, would be offshorelectrics.com. This website provided a vast array of different price points of RC boats, and different models and styles as well.
Assembling a model boat kit for ages 8 to 11 is most likely ideal. A few websites indicate children as young as 5 would enjoy this hobby however I believe it indicates a child this young would enjoy the boat after it is assembled and ready for remote control use (not during the initial modeling).
