Ornithologist Orin Good Fogle and his wife, newspaper editor and publicist Barbara Home Stewart canoed 3,500 miles through Everglades National Park and Florida's Ten Thousand Islands in 1959-1960, paddling 1,500 miles and visiting the headwaters of all major rivers in the area. En route, they set a record for camping and surviving in the 'Glades--six months away from civilization--by catching and eating800 pounds of fish, plus wild foods to supplement the meager supply of 47 pounds of dry food they carried in their 17-foot canoe, NOCKATEE. Barbara is a member of The Explorers Club, the Society of Woman Geographers and the Outdoor Writers Association of America, and a
former lecturer for the National Audubon Society Wildlife Film Tours.
