Shadow Spinner by Susan Fletcher is about a girl named Marjan who is crippled. She is technically a servant but she is treated like a daughter. She goes to the harem with her Auntie Chava so they can sell some things. She tells a story to a group of kids and a woman over hears her. She is Dunyazad. She takes her to her sister, Shahrazad so she can tell her the story. Shahrazad is married to the Sultan. She must tell him a story every night. She only tells half the story and tells the rest in the morning so the Sultan wont kill her. She asks Marjan for help in finding stories because she is running out. They escape the harem so that they can find a blind storyteller that had told her a story long ago. They have to escape the wrath of the Khutan, the sultans mother. In the end Shahrazad and the sultan fall in love and Marjan leaves to a far away land so the Khutan wont kill her. This is basically what the Shadow Spinner is about but you have to read the book to get the whole picture.
