Why are e-book so expensive?

There are only a few publishers who deal with college textbooks, and so there is little competition amongst them. Without competition, they don't need to lower the price of their products as much, because they know the consumer has only a few choices. If, indeed, the consumer has anychoices, because usually the student is required to have a certain book for his or her course. So because they know that you are going to buy their book, whether you want to or not, they jack up the prices sky high. I suppose the short answer to this question is pure greed.

Try to find a PDF of the book first, or rent it.

there so expensive because they are new technology devices that let you go online and read books. they should be expensive. you can read any book with a touch of a button. i mean, who wouldn't like that instead of having to go out and buying/renting a bunch of books? if you have a project and need to read a certain category of books, you can just click online in the ebook and you can buy a book right then and there. without one, you would have to go to a store or library and borrow/buy the book. its much easier to have it on the spot then have to go out. its easier and lazier, but way faster and more convenient for people who are too busy to stop for a book. that's why they are so expensive.
