Research shows that you can go a few mph over the limit without being caught by a speed camera. For instance, if the limit is 35mph and you are driving at 37mph you would get away with it. You can get away with being around 1-4% over the limit which, although isn't that much, is better than being caught for going 1mph faster than the limit.

Who invented the gatso?

Maurice ("Maus") Gatsonides (1911-02-14-1998-11-29) was a Dutch rally driver and inventor. Gatsonides was born in Gombong on the island Java in the former Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). He founded the company "Gatsometer BV" in 1958. Today, Gatsonides' fame largely results from inventing the Gatso speed camera, a speed measuring device used today by many police forces around the world to reliably catch drivers who are speeding. He originally invented the Gatso speed camera to measure his cornering speed in an attempt to improve his driving.

How does the truvelo speed camera work?

The Truvelo is a forward facing camera that utilises similar technology to the Gatso - By laying virtual loops in the road ahead of the camera, a trigger is used to take a photograph when the speed limit is exceeded or the "virtual" loop is broken.Picture the camera projecting a set of lines on the road - The time it takes to break the first line before the second line is broken determines whether the speed limit is being broken.

Do all gatso cameras flash?

Not all Gatso cameras flash; it depends on the specific type and model. Traditional Gatso cameras typically use a flash to capture images of speeding vehicles at night or in low-light conditions. However, some newer models, such as digital Gatso cameras, may operate without a flash, using infrared technology to take pictures discreetly.

When were speed cameras invented?

They were invented in the 1950s by Maurice Gatsonides. He was a Dutch racing car (rally) driver who invented the camera so he could check his cornering during races. It was later adopted by police forces around the world. His company, Gatsometer BV, founded in 1958 made and sold the device, called a "Gatso".

How do speed cameras work?

There are several different designs and systems depending on the manufacturer of the device, but a basic type operates by timer. Once the light turns red it activates the camera mechanism and anything that passes through the camera's field of view triggers the camera to take a picture. Other more sophislticated types work on the same principle as radar. When a vehicle crosses its field of view after the light turns red, it triggers the camera.

How do GATSOS work?

GATSO`S are speed cameras and red light jumper cameras. They look on the road and if they spot a car speeding it catches their number plate and the driver recieves a ticket in about 2 weeks which is a fine for about £60. They are Also for red light jumpers (They are silver and look like speed cameras) They can see the traffic light and what colour it is and if it finds a driver who passes the lights when it is red they catch their number plate and they recieve a ticket in about 2 weeks which is a fine for about £60. A Little Tip Most people think that if they cover there number plate with something, such as wax, the cameras will not be able to read there number plate. Well they are wrong!!! Both cameras have an infar red in them which means they can look through anything on your number plate and find your number plate. And you would probably get even more points on your license because covering your number plate with something is illegal!! So do not speed or run the red!!!! And also if you come to a red light jumper camera do not try to drive fast through a red light, because the Gatso can get your number plate from really far away!!! You would usually get a ticket from a red light jumper camera if you passed the line after about 1 or 2 seconds of the light being red!!!
