It is during this period that Ibn al-Haytham composed his most original scientific achievements that represented a turning point in the history of science. He made significant contributions to the field of optics, as well as to physics, astronomy, mathematics, ophthalmology, philosophy, visual perception, and is sometimes credited with inventing the scientific method.

It was discovered independently several times in history; probably credit should go to Abū 'Alī al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ḥasan ibn al-Haytham who not only discovered the affect but wrote a book on optics to describe it. He discovered the affect in Cairo, Egypt.
Alhazen, the Latinized name of Abū 'Alī al-Hasan ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Haytham, was born Basra, in what was then part of the Abbasid Caliphate is now in the Republic of Iraq, in 965.
There are quite a number of scholars who could qualify: Ibn Sina (Avicenna), Ibn al-Haytham (Alhazen), Al-Razi, Ibn al-Nafis, etc.
