The first camera invented was a device called the camera obscura (Latin for "dark room"), it was a small room with a pinhole in one wall that was used by artists to make paintings of their clients. The earliest extant written record of the camera obscura is in the writings of Mozi (circa 470 BCE-circa 391 BCE), a Han Chinese philosopher, but they had clearly been in use long before that so that the actual inventor and when it was invented cannot be determined.
