No, they don't. I'll explain about ionic bonds...

Well, an ionic bond is always going to be a metal bonded to a non-metal. As both a metal and a non-metal have different electronegativities, as they're both on different sides of the Periodic Table. The element that has the higher electronegativity is the element which takes an electron from the element with less electronegativity. As the non-metal takes an electron from the metal, the metal becomes positively charged, and the non-metal becomes negatively charged. Then as opposite charges attract, they bond together, forming a polar ionic compound. Make sense?

An ionic compound is typically a bond between a metal and a non-metal. This is because metals have a tendency to lose electrons, while non-metals have a tendency to gain electrons.

A good example of this is sodium chloride (salt), NaCl. The positive ions of the metal sodium (Na+) bond with the negative ions of the non-metal chlorine (Cl-)

Generally ionic compounds are made from a metal and a non-metal, e.g. sodium chloride.

There are compounds where there are two different metals present as cations such as alum KAl(SO4)2.12H2O.

There are also some weird compounds that can be made such as cesium auride, CsAu, made by melting cesium and gold together which forms an ionic compound containing Au- ions.

Do binary ionic compounds have bonds that share two valence electrons?

No. Ionic compounds are held together by ionic bonds.

How do you find out if a compound is ionic or covalent?

If a compound is made from a metal and a non-metal, its bonding will be ionic. If a compound is made from two non-metals, its bonding will be covalent. Compounds containing two elements (so called binary compounds) can either have ionic or covalent bonding.

When are IONIC compounds are formed?

ionic compounds are formed by the complete transfer of electrons. If the electronegativity difference between the two atoms is above 1.7, then ionic bond is formed between the two atoms.

What are the two major types of compounds?

There are two types of compounds: molecular and ionic. ill give you an example of each Water-H20 molecular compound Salt-NaCl ionic compoundThere are ionic compounds which is a compound formed by a positive metal ion and a negative nonmetal ion. And there are convalent compounds which is a compound formed in which atoms share electrons.

What are two physical characteristics of ionic compounds What is one chemical characteristics of ionic compounds?

Ionic compounds are hard and rigid due to strong forces of attraction between the oppositely charged ions. Ionic compounds have high melting and boiling points, again due to strong forces of attraction between the ions. Ionic compounds dissolve easily in water.

What are 2 ways in which compounds form?

There are two types of compounds according to their bonding, ionic and covalent. Compounds can be divided into two with respect to their appearance, molecular compounds and crystalline compounds.

Will sodium and sulfur form ionic compounds?

Yes. These two elements alone will form ionic sodium sulfide, and together with oxygen they can form several other ionic compounds such as Na2SO4.

Is SiS covalent or ionic?

ionic. Silicon is not a gas. Covalent compounds are made from gasses only.

What are the two types of binary compounds?

Type 1 binary ionic compounds are those in which the cation has only one form, or charge. Type 2 binary ionic compounds are those in which the cation can have multiple forms.

Is All ionic compounds include at least two elements true?

Yes. All chemical compounds, ionic and covalent, contain 2 or more elements.

What are ionic compounds made of?

Ionic compounds can be made from any combination of ions, which are charged groups of atoms. An atom is made up of neutrons, protons, and electrons, which are made up of even smaller particles, some of which are only theoretical.
