What happens when you mix silver with vinegar?

When silver is mixed with vinegar, a chemical reaction occurs that produces silver acetate along with hydrogen gas. The silver acetate appears as a white precipitate in the solution, which can be easily observed. The reaction can be used to clean silverware as the silver acetate dissolves tarnish and dirt on the surface of the silver.

How are the properties of copper acetate different from the properties of the properties of vinegar?

Copper acetate is a compound of copper and acetic acid, whereas vinegar is primarily acetic acid dissolved in water. Copper acetate is a solid with a blue-green color, while vinegar is a clear liquid. Copper acetate is often used in chemistry experiments and as a catalyst, whereas vinegar is commonly used in cooking and cleaning.

What two products are formed from a reaction of ammonia and vinegar?

The reaction of ammonia and vinegar forms ammonium acetate and water. Ammonium acetate is a salt commonly used in chemical reactions and laboratory experiments.

What is produced when you neutralize vinegar with ammonia?

When you neutralize vinegar (acetic acid, CH3COOH) with ammonia (NH3), the reaction forms ammonium acetate (CH3COONH4), water (H2O), and heat. The reaction can be represented as CH3COOH + NH3 → CH3COONH4 + H2O. Ammonium acetate is a salt that is commonly used in laboratory settings for various purposes.

Is it a chemical reaction when salt and vinegar clean the bottom of a copper pot?

Yes, the combination of salt and vinegar on the copper pot creates a chemical reaction that helps remove tarnish and dirt from the surface. The salt acts as an abrasive while the vinegar reacts with the tarnish to help dissolve it, making it easier to clean the pot.
