I assume you are asking this for one of two reasons.
First, because you have a yellow gold ring that you would like to make into a white gold ring. The answer to that is, no, you really can't do that. Liquid gold is molten, meaning that it is heated to a high enough temperature that it melts. Dipping a ring into molten gold would make it melt, too. Maybe not completely melt down into a puddle, but you would certainly lose any detail in the ring's design.
The second reason you might be asking is because you have a "white gold" ring that has a golden yellow core, like yellow gold that has been dipped into white gold. This, unfortunately, is merely a brass ring (the yellow part) that has been plated with a white metal, perhaps white gold, but more likely some kind of whitish silvery base metal.
Bluing is a very mild dye that cancels out the slight yellow tinge in white clothes caused by the detergent. It makes clothes look "whiter than white". Today's laundry detergents contain chemicals that do the same thing as bluing, except that the clothes washed in it look even more white under sunlit conditions. Bluing. Who remembers 'Mrs Stewart's' brand?
To test if gold is real using bleach, you can do a simple at-home test. Place a drop of bleach on the gold item in question. If the gold turns pale or dissolves, it is not real gold. Real gold will not react with bleach. Remember, this is just a basic test and for a more accurate assessment, you should consult a professional jeweler.
Silver is generally dipped or layered in rhodium , a derivative of platinum, but much shinier. Rhodium is even brighter than whtie gold , so it's perfect for prong-set white diamonds or light-colored stones.
By all means yes! You could dip your chain in hot chocolate. Now dipped in something of value is another question all together. Say could you dip your sterling necklace in 24K gold? The answer is no. In order to 'dip' something into anything the thing would have to be liquid. So to dip your chain into gold would merely melt the chain. The process of coating a metal with another metal is called Electroplating. Your chain would be suspended in a liquid that had a high concentration of desired gold content, one end would be attached to the positive side of the battery while the other would be attached to the ground. This produces an electron flow through the chain causing the gold to adhere to metal. Most likely the term dipping came from this process since the gold plating is kept in solution.
10k gold is stronger than 14k as it has more alloys and less pure gold. However, the value decreases as well as 14k has more gold and is worth more. In terms of strength, 10k has a bit more than 14k but the difference is not that much. You can still safely wear your pendants/charms on a 14k chain and it's not going to break any easier than a 10k chain. Just keep your chains clean and be sure to only dip them in cleaner for about 15 seconds, immediately drop them into a dish with clean water and then wipe off. Jewellery cleaner will eat away at your gold if you dip it too long and don't rinse it off with water right after to stop the solution. Honestly, I wear both 10k and 14k and keep them clean and I can't tell the difference between strengths as far as wear ability goes. Only thing I find is that my 14k gold chains are a darker yellow than my 10k so it just depends if you want to wear something with a little more shine or a little less. Both are good qualities and I wouldn't go any higher in the K or else it gets even softer.
