Technibond jewelry (sold by HSN) is plated/bonded with 14kt. The base metal is sterling silver. From what I understand the process HSN uses is somewhere between gold-plated and a true vermeil. Vermeil is gold over sterling, but the layer of gold is thicker than just goldplating (and more expensive). I think the vermeil process is different as well. I have several Technibond pieces. I like them and they are holding up well.
