The quality of gold plating does not depend on the shade of gold but rather on the thickness of the gold layer. A thicker gold plating will generally be more durable and last longer regardless of the shade of gold.
You can't change "yellow" gold to white gold. White gold is an alloy of gold that contains gold and another metal, often nickel, platinum or palladium. To make white gold, you have to first melt down gold, melt down your other metal and mix them in an alloy.
Your ring from 2001 is not all white gold, White gold is an alloy of gold. Mixed with either Nickel or Palladium. Nickel is hard and is used in rings where palladium is soft and used for gemstone settings, either way the real gold has been mixed with these to get the silver color obviously the older ring was alloy thru and thru and the newer one was just lightly plated with alloy. I personally dont like white gold, its not meant to be that color, but I shopped for jewelry for my wife recently and found very little yellow (actual color of gold). Karats determine the extent of the mixture 24 being pure and going down from there, to keep the gold color it is mixed with a similar colored metal to make it harder and retain the gold luster. You will find that 22 karat gold is much more expensive than 14 or 10 and wont be white but is softer and therefore must be worn with care. I just think about how much the gold has been diluted for it to lose its natural color. That is a very good answer, but I have a simple response to your last sentence. Several people have problems with sterling silver or regular metal, I'm talking about hwo some people are allergic to these metals. Some people do not like the looks of gold, as odd as it seems, and they choose to wear silver and yet they are allergic. So they buy white gold which has the effect of silver and does not infect their skin. Make any sense?
Depends on the thickness of the coated layer of gold on the steel, thicker the longer. As for the duration of its lasting, its exposure to moisture and corrosion (air, sweat, oil) and general wear and tear will all influence it. A steel object's gold plating should be preserved in Vacuum and not suffer any wear and tare or exposure to moisture and corrosion to last for ever!!
Yes, glycerin can help make bubbles last longer because it slows down the evaporation of water in the bubble solution. This helps create a stronger and more durable bubble film that can stay intact for a longer period of time.
Gold earrings will most likely last longer than silver being that gold does not tarnish.
NO, once it is yellow...you CANNOT change it to white. * Yellow gold is made by mixing pure gold with alloys such as copper and zinc. * Rose or pink gold is made using a mix of pure gold with alloy metals including copper. The copper provides the rose-reddish color. * White gold is an alloy of gold and some white metals such as nickel and palladium. The only way you can change the color of your ring is to have it plated. This method is not permanent as the coating will wear off through normal wear and tear. However, almost all white gold rings today are rhodium plated and there is no reason you cannot rhodium plate a yellow gold ring. The difference is that the contrast will be much greater as the plating starts to wear, so more frequent replating will be necessary. In the case of jewelry that receives little wear, like a pin or a broach, rhodium plating may last indefinitely. Sure, yellow gold could be turn in white color and we have yellow gold rings and white gold rings. It is common for jeweler to make a 18k white gold ring by yellow gold. He will add 25% other metals, like nickle which would make the yellow color turn into white. That comes a 18k white gold ring.

Hello, do not buy rose gold because it is made with yellow gold and more copper. Rose gold can be scratched and can brake easily because it is too soft like gold jewelery. Why buy something that can break so easily and that doesn't have a life time guarantee.? The white gold formula is white precious metal alloys that are scratch resistant and are of a stronger quality. White gold is more durable than yellow gold with rhodium plating. White gold compliments white diamonds better than yellow gold alloys plated with rhodium. According to the public world market, whits gold is more affordable than platinum and it is also more popular than yellow gold alloys. Yellow gold is out of fashion. The pure solid white gold formula is the best bargain in the world market. It can last a lifetime and you wont need to buy jewelery ever again if desired. Living Life Enterprises guarantees and certifies this.

no, the colour of gold depends of the alloy in it. you can plate it but it will not last very long.
It would be better to buy a higer carat if it is gold filled-aim for 18ct, 24ct rather. Gold filled is good quality on its own, and will last a lifetime with the proper care. Eg, 9ct gold will last you 20years whereas 24ct gold will last you 50years. Stronger/higher carat gold bonded lasts longer. But than again, the 24ct looks very yellow.
