The difference between ionic an metallic bonds is that the in ionic compounds the electrons are transferred and are "localised" to the anions and the cations. Ionic compounds contain a lattice of positive and negative ions which is held together by electrostatic attraction.

Metallic bonds are sometimes described as ions in a sea of electrons. The presence of "ions" is sometimes taken as a similarity between ionic solids and metals. (Please remember this is a VERY simple model, and the reality is more complicated) The electrons in the "sea" are highly mobile, delocalised, and able to carry electricity.

Does a crystal being hit by a hammer contain ionic or metallic bonds?

Ionic. Crystal structures are formed by ionic bonds and metallic bonds are, well, between metals.

Do metallic bonds have weak forces?

Metallic bonds are not so strong as covalent and ionic bonds.

Which type of bonds are metallic bonds similar to?

They are most similar to delocalised bonds such as in graphite. Sometimes described as lattice of metal ions in a cloud of electrons they have little in common with covalent bonds or ionic bonds.

How are ionic bond and covalent bond similar?

They all bond atoms together. They all do it in different ways. Metallic bonds involve ions in a sea of electrons, Ionic bonds are between ions of opposite charges and covalent bonds involve the sharing of electrons

Does metal have ionic covalent or metallic bonds?

When metals bond together, those are called metallic bonds. When they bond with nonmetals, they are called ionic bonds.

How is metallic bond different from ionic and covalent bonds?

they share all of their valence electrons

What are the different types of chemical bonds?

Ionic bonds, Covalent bonds, Hydrogen bonds, Polar Covalent bonds, Non-Polar Covalent bonds, and Metallic bonds.

What bonds do atoms make?

metallic, ionic, and covalent bonds

What kinds of bonds does silver have?

Covalent and ionic

What are the properties of ionic bonds?

Ionic bonds are electrostatic bonds between ions. Most of this type of compounds are made out of a metallic element and a non metallic element. The solutions of ionic compounds conduct electricity.

Which type of bonds trade electons?

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonds.

What are the properties of an ionic bond?

Ionic bonds are formed between metallic and non-metallic elements. The electrostatic attractions between the oppositely charged ions forms a lattice structure. Ionic compounds share similar properties, such as not conducting electricity while solid. But good electrical conductivity in aqueous solution or a liquid state.
