Because Gold doesn't melt until u get to a very Specific temperature, 1,945 degrees F or 1,063 Degrees C.......All metals have different melting points so anything that melts away before the temp. hits 1,945 F is just zinc, copper, etc... Whatever melts at 1945 is your gold and anything above that is usually platted on or added for strength!! Then again, all temperatures fluctuate a little depending on the purity of the precious metal!! There are lots of charts out there that can give you the melting temperatures for any type or purity of metals!! Hope this helps a little!!

How can heat be used to tell real gold from fools gold?

Real gold has a higher melting point than fools gold. By applying heat, it is possible to determine the melting point of the material. If the material melts at a temperature higher than 1,064 degrees Celsius (1,947 degrees Fahrenheit), it is likely real gold.

How can you tell if a substance is pure or not?

You can tell if a substance is pure by using techniques like melting point determination or chromatography to compare against known pure samples. If the substance has a consistent melting point or chromatogram, it is likely pure. Impurities can cause a substance to have a lower melting point or show additional peaks in chromatography.

How can I tell if a ring is real gold?

You can determine if a ring is real gold by looking for marks such as a karat stamp (e.g. 10K, 14K, 18K) indicating the purity of the gold. You can also perform a simple acid test or take it to a jeweler for professional testing. Additionally, real gold will not tarnish or discolor skin.

Can you tell if gold is real by burning it?

Burning gold will not help determine if it is real or not, as gold's properties do not change when burned. To determine if gold is real, it is best to conduct a professional assay test or have it evaluated by a reputable jeweler.

How can you tell whether a compound is pure or not?

One way to determine if a compound is pure is to perform a melting point test. A pure compound will have a sharp melting point, while impurities will cause the melting point to be lowered and broadened. You can also use analytical techniques such as chromatography or spectroscopy to analyze the compound's composition and identify any impurities.

How can you tell if you found real gold?

You could give it the streak test, find its density, determine its melting point, check it for relative hardness, take it to a jeweler or geologist, or to a mineral assay office.

How can you tell if you have real gold neckless?

You can tell if you have a real gold necklace by checking its hardness, luster, specific gravity, streak, cleavage, and fracture, if all the properties match with the properties of gold you have a gold necklace.

How a termometer can be used to check the purity of a metal?

because gold or iron are metal if they are not a metal so they can not check the purity but they are metals..
