In Mendeleev periodic table elements were arranged in the increasing order of their atomic masses and there were free spaces for the new elements which were not discovered at that time. This periodic table had more periods than groups.In Mosley periodic table elements were arranged in the increasing order of their atomic numbers and there were no free spaces for the new elements which were not discovered at that time. This periodic table has more groups than periods.

Mendeleev's periodic table was arranged in order of increasing atomic masses, whereas today's modern periodic table is arranged in order of increasing atomic number.
