The most common method of preparation of Carbon dioxide in lab is by action of dilute mineral acids on Calcium Carbonate. It is easy to do, economical and comparatively safe and uses no energy.

Things needed:Apparatus:
  1. Woulf's bottle (One having two necks)
  2. Corks
  3. Tubes
  4. Gas cylinder
  5. Wax
  6. Thistle funnel

Chemicals:

  1. Water
  2. Hydrochloric acid dilute (30 percent preferably)
  3. Marble pieces (Calcium carbonate)

Setting the apparatus:

  1. First of all, Take a tube and bend it at two points on 90 degree angle.
  2. Take a woulf bottle and fix two, bored corks in its openings.
  3. Insert thistle funnel in one cork and delivery tube's one end in other.
  4. Insert the other end of tube in a gas cylinder.
  5. Make The Apparatus airtight by using wax or some other material.

Preparation of Gas:

  1. Remove one cork and insert small calcium carbonate pieces in the bottle.
  2. Close the bottle again. The funnel must be deep inside the marble pieces otherwise Gas will escape through it.
  3. Start pouring Dilute Hydrochloric acid using thistle funnel.
  4. Carbon dioxide will start forming and you will be able to detect its evolution by production of effervescence in the woulf's bottle.

Safety precautions:

  1. Have a good ventelation system.
  2. Wear a gas-mask or a simple mask, at least.
  3. Be careful with acid, It can be really dangerous if you don't take care.
  4. Carbon dioxide can suffocate you. Be careful.
  5. Avoid prolonged exposure to Carbon dioxide.

How is sulphur dioxide prepared in laboratory?

Sulfur dioxide can be prepared in the laboratory by reacting sulfur with oxygen or air. This reaction is typically carried out in a combustion chamber where sulfur burns in the presence of excess oxygen to form sulfur dioxide gas. The gas can then be collected using a suitable apparatus.

How can carbon dioxide be produced using an acid and a metal carbonate?

Carbon dioxide can be produced by reacting an acid (such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid) with a metal carbonate (such as calcium carbonate). The acid will react with the metal carbonate to form a salt, water, and carbon dioxide gas as a byproduct. This reaction is a common way to generate carbon dioxide gas in laboratory settings.

Why is it not possible to use dilute sulfuric acid to make carbon dioxide from limestone in the laboratory?

This is because; when you react the two, limestone will form a protective layer around it, which will make it very hard for the acid to react with it. Therefore, it is very hard for this reaction to go to neutralization.

Is carbon dioxide an element or carbon?

Carbon is an element, but not carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a compound of carbon and oxygen.

In a solution of carbon dioxide in water a soft drink the carbon dioxide is the solute?

Yes, in a solution of carbon dioxide in water, the carbon dioxide gas is the solute and the water is the solvent. The carbon dioxide dissolves in the water to form a homogenous mixture, giving the drink its fizziness.

Why are the gases hydrogen and carbon dioxide the same?

Hydrogen (H2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) are different chemical substances. They are gases with many applications in laboratory and technology. They are NOT. Two totally different gases.

Why freshly prepared 'KOH' solution is taken in a watch-glass and kept in the bell jar during the experiment to show that carbon-dioxide is essential for photosynthesis?

The freshly prepared KOH solution is used in the experiment to absorb carbon dioxide present in the air inside the bell jar. By keeping the KOH solution in a watch-glass, any change in the color of the solution due to the absorption of carbon dioxide can be easily observed. This helps demonstrate that carbon dioxide is essential for photosynthesis by showing that the removal of carbon dioxide inhibits the process.
