HGJ Moseley discovered that there was a basic quantity that correlated better with the properties of elements than atomic weight. He was able to run a series of X-ray spectra, and noticed that there was a regular progression that more or less followed atomic weight, but with a few exceptions. These exceptions turned out to be the same ones where Mendeleev had been having trouble with the periodic law.

Mendeleev had spent a lot of time and energy arguing that tellurium must have a lower atomic weight than iodine, so that tellurium could fit in with selenium and sulfur, and iodine with bromine and chlorine. But the best work available consistently showed that tellurium had an atomic weight about 1% higher than iodine. With Moseley's work it became clear that although tellurium had a higher atomic weight than iodine, it had a lower atomic number. Similarly he had always had tables that assigned the same atomic weight to cobalt and nickel, while the experimental work showed that nickel had an atomic weight about 0.2% lower than cobalt, but an atomic number that was one greater. And the recently discovered noble gas argon had an atomic weight 2% greater than that of the next element, potassium, but an atomic number that was one less. These three exceptions to Mendeleev's periodic law, led to the modern form of the same law: if the elements are arranged in the order of their atomic NUMBER, then their properties repeat in a periodic fashion.

What were Henry morsely's efforts to the periodic table?

Henry Moseley contributed to the periodic table by arranging elements based on atomic number rather than atomic mass, establishing the modern periodic law. His work led to a more accurate arrangement of elements and a better understanding of their properties. Moseley's discovery helped fill gaps in the periodic table and laid the foundation for the modern understanding of the structure of atoms.

Who is the father of the modern periodic table in chemistry?

Henry Moseley is father of modern periodic table. He arranged elements in order of increasing atomic number. He arranged elements such that the elements with same properties were grouped together.

What did Henry Moseley change about the periodic table?

Henry Moseley reorganized the periodic table based on atomic number instead of atomic mass, thereby providing a more accurate and clear arrangement of elements. This reorganization helped to explain the discrepancies and predict properties of certain elements that were not well-understood before.

How did Henry mosely rearrange the periodic table and why?

Before Henry Moseley, the periodic table was arranged in order of increasing atomic mass. However, this arrangement did not allow all the elements to be placed into groups of similar chemical properties. Moseley rearranged the periodic periodic in order of increasing atomic number which did have all the elements in their correct groups.

Who gave the modern periodic table so?

The modern periodic table was created by Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869. He arranged the elements based on increasing atomic mass and similar chemical properties. Mendeleev's table provided a framework for organizing the known elements and predicting the properties of undiscovered elements.

What is the correct chronological order of scientists contributing to the modern periodic table?

Dmitri Mendeleev was the first to develop the modern periodic table in 1869. Later, Henry Moseley rearranged the elements by atomic number, which is the modern arrangement. So, Mendeleev comes before Moseley in terms of their contributions to the modern periodic table.

Where the periodic table was discovered?

The periodic table was first proposed by a Russian chemist Dimitri Mendeleev. The modern periodic table ordered by atomic number was proposed by an English physicist, Henry Moseley.
