Atoms can become ions if one or more of the outer sheell electrons are knocked off by any external energy, say an X-ray, Gamma Ray or simple heat. Hydrogen is H-atom and H2 molecule. When it loses an outer shell electron it becomes H-1, that is a negatively charged ion. In case of Hydrogen, since there is only one electron in the s-shell, hydrogen ion is similar to a hydrogen nucleas. Read " Nature and property of Chemical bonds" by Linus Pauling.
an atom becomes an ion when it either gains or loses an electron, so that it's total charge is either positive or negative
An atom becomes an ion by gaining or losing electrons
have lost electrons
we use + and -
Atoms are neutral particles. Ions are charged atoms.
Positive ions (or cations) - They are reducers.
Lose electrons and become positive ions.
ions
All atoms can become ions, but in most it is rare
the ions react with alkaline soils and produse atoms.

Non Metals
Positive ions form when an atom or group of atoms loses one or more electrons.
Atoms are neutral particles. Ions are charged atoms.
Metal atoms become ions when they lose electrons.
