Best Answer

A monomer any compound make of single unit and a polymer means the compound is formed by many units either same or some time different and are joined by covalent bonds.

Many organic compounds show the property of polymerization e.g.

MONOMER -------POLYMER

ethylene------------ Polyethylene

formaldhyde+ethanol----------Bakalite

Monomer (coming from Greek mono- meaning "one" and meros meaning "part") refers to a single piece that contributes to a larger whole. Assembling many monomers will form a polymer (coming from Green poly- meaning "many" and meros).

An example would be a brick wall. A brick wall is a whole made up of many bricks assembled together, so the wall would be a polymer and the bricks would be the monomers that contribute to it.
