The number of valence electrons is easily found. You can take a look at the Periodic Table, ignore the transistion metals and count. The first column has one valence electron, the second column has two and so on. The noble gases have eight--which makes sense because they tend to be chemically stable (fulfilling the octet rule).

in the periodoc table, there are 8 groups. if an element is in group 1, it has 1 valence electron, if it is in group 2, it has 2 valence electrons, and so forth. the only group this does not work for is group 8, in which the elements have no valence electrons, as they have full outer shells.

If you look at the periodic table. inside one of the element's boxes, there will be numbers along the bottom or side. The last number tell you how many Valence electrons it has.

It is equivalent to the number of electrons for metals, and the number of remaining electrons to obtain a noble gas configuration for non metals.

How calculate valency?

Valency is calculated in this way... 1. Find atm no of that element. 2. Write down electronic configuration. 3. Take the valence shell electron number. 4. The number of electrons to be lost are added as the valency.

How do you find valency?

The valency of an element measures its ability to combine with other elements. This valency is determined by the number of electrons in the outer shell of each atom of an element.
