Dissolve the silver nitrate in water (a one molar solution [17 grams per litre of water] is best). There are two paths: pure metal substitution or complex ion replacement.

Pure metal: Place a more active metal (such as copper wire or aluminum foil) in the silver nitrate solution and let the oxidation-reduction reaction occur. The more active metal will replace the silver in solution, causing the silver to crystilize on the new material.

Complex ion replacement: Add ammonia to the silver nitrate solution in a 1:3 ratio. Stir until the precipitate redissolves. Add about 5 more millilitres of ammonia. This is known as the Tollen's Reagent. Add a dilute solution of glucose to the Tollen's Reagent and heat in a 70 degree celsius water bath. A mirror will form on the inside of whatever container you used (this can be scrapped off, and is slightly more pure than the metal replacement).

Copper will react with silver nitrate to form copper nitrate and silver?

In certain reaction conditions, yes. Copper is more reactive than silver, so it should react with the nitrate molecule to form copper nitrate while precipitating the silver. *Are you thinking about separating silver from photographic fixer? Commonly a less expensive metal is used like iron (steel wool) to extract much of the silver.

What is the process for the extraction of silver nitrate from photographic waste?

To extract silver nitrate from photographic waste, you can use a process called electrolysis. This involves passing an electric current through a solution containing the waste material, causing the silver ions to be attracted to the negative electrode and reduced to silver metal. The resulting silver can then be collected and further refined if needed.

What is chemical symbol for silver nitrate?

Silver nitrate = AgNO3

Is silver nitrate cations or anions?

Silver nitrate is a compound composed of silver cations (Ag+) and nitrate anions (NO3-).

Formula silver nitrate?

The chemical formula for silver nitrate is AgNO3.

What is the formula for aqueous silver nitrate?

The chemical formula for aqueous silver nitrate is AgNO3, where Ag is the symbol for silver and NO3 is the polyatomic ion nitrate. When silver nitrate is dissolved in water, it dissociates into silver ions (Ag+) and nitrate ions (NO3-).

What ionic compound is AgNO3?

Can't say, since "o" is not an element. However: Ag3N is Silver Nitride AgNO2 - Silver Nitrite AgNO3 - Silver Nitrate

Is silver nitrate a metal or nonmetal?

Silver nitrate is a compound that is composed of a metal (silver) and nonmetal (nitrate) elements. Silver is a metal because it is a good conductor of electricity, whereas nitrate is a nonmetal as it typically forms negative ions in chemical reactions.

What happens to nitrate when you electroplate sliver nitrate?

When silver nitrate is electroplated, the silver ions in the silver nitrate solution are reduced at the cathode, forming a silver metal coating on the substrate. The nitrate ions from the silver nitrate solution are left in the solution without participating directly in the electroplating process.

Is silver salts same as silver nitrate?

No, silver salts refer to a broad category of compounds containing silver combined with other elements, while silver nitrate specifically refers to the salt formed when silver is combined with nitric acid. Silver nitrate is a type of silver salt, but not all silver salts are silver nitrate.

Is silver nitrate a element?

no silver is an element nitrogen is an element silver nitrate is a compound

What elements made silver nitrate?
