Proper sanitation and daily maintenance.

Liberal use of absorbent bedding like straw or wood chips is a good start.

Most feed and grain outlets sell organic deodorizers that will help but good clean management of the chicken coop will keep the smell to a minimum. In many cases it is over feeding and damp conditions that produce a sour smell and that is from the rotting chicken feed not the feces.

I own a gas station that has Skid-O-Cans. I use a product called What Odor? in them, and it works great completely gets rid of the odor in them. No doubt it will work for you.

Clean it out at least once a week, when you clean it out use small animal disinfectant on the cage.
