The pH tells the Acidity (or Hydrogen Ion Concentration) of the solution.
The range of this measure is from 0 to 14, with Neutral being pH7.
The lower the pH, the most Acidic end and, a pH above pH7 is Caustic.

∙ 15y agoFor gases, you can simply make the pH paper wet with some pH neutral paper, if the gas dissolves in water. For solids, you can make a solution out of it and then test the pH.

But the most common and accurate method is the measurement with a pH-meter.
Litmus paper, or other pH papers can measure pH. Many pH test papers can measure specific pH values. There are also instruments called pH meters that can measure pH.
It is very easy to measure pH using a pH meter.
