How are elements put together?

Elements are put together through chemical bonding, where atoms of different elements share, gain, or lose electrons to form compounds. The type of bonding that occurs (ionic, covalent, metallic) depends on the interactions between the atoms involved. These compounds can then form various structures, such as molecules, crystals, or alloys.

What is the term of splitting ionic compounds into ions?

The splitting of ionic compounds into constituent ions is termed as dissociation.

Do ionic compounds need to contain metals?

No, an ionic compound can be made up of any two substances that split into ions when put in solution (dissolved). An example of a non-metallic ionic compound is ammonium nitrate (NH4N03). When dissolved in water it separates into an ammonium ion (+NH4) and a nitrate ion (NO3).Also, whenever an acid is dissolved in water an ionic compound is formed. for example when sulfuric acid is dissolved in water it forms hydroxyl sulphate ((H30)2SO4) which separates into hydroxyl (+H3O) and sulphate ions (-2SO4).

What is the name of the ionic compound CrCl3?

Chromium (III) chloride

What are three properties of ionic compounds?

1) High Melting and Boiling Points. Ionic Compounds and bonded together by strong Ionic Bond. This results in a very strong bond requiring a lot of energy (in the form of heat energy) to overcome. Thus causing High Melting and Boiling points. 2) Conducts electricity in liquid state and in molten state. Ionic Compounds have a Crystal Latice Structure which causes their ions to be at fixed points thus making them unable to conduct electricity when in solid state. However when in liquid state or in molten state, Ions can move freely and thus they can conduct electricity in those two states. 3) Soluble in water but not soluble in organic solvent such as oil.
