A litmus paper is used to test the alkalinity or acidity of any substance. In the presence of an acid, a blue litmus paper will turn red and a red litmus paper turns blue to indicate the presence of alkaline.
it is used to determine the acidity or basity of a solution. red or pink litmus is used to test for basic solution and will turn blue in a basic solution blue litmus is used to test for acid and will turn pink in an acidic solution
Red litmus paper is used to test alkalinity (The strength of an alkali).
Dip the litmus paper in the solution, then remove it and place it down. Or for gases, put the Litmus paper at the top of the glass tube containing the gas you wish to test.
If it turns Blue the solution is alkaline. If it does not change colour at all the solution is acidic. If the colour changes to purple, it is neutral.
Blue litmus paper is used in a similar way but is for testing acidity. It turns red when it is exposed to acidic solutions.
The more apparent the change in colour is, the stronger the alkali or acid.

Actual litmus paper is made using an indicator called litmus which is extracted from lichens. It's simply blotting paper soaked in a solution of litmus in water. However, you can make a substitute using the recipe below. This is what you need to make your "Litmus" paper: * Some grated fresh red cabbage * Water, enough to fill your jar * Paper towels, 2" strips * A wide-mouthed jar * Other fruits, flowers and vegetables How to do it: # Boil the cabbage in the water for about 10 minutes. # Let it cool down. # Strain it into a wide-mouthed jar. # Take your 2" strips of paper towels and soak it in the juice for a minute. # Let the strips of paper dry. # You now have your "Litmus" paper that you can use. # Now make paper in the same way with different substance such as fruits, flowers and vegetables. When we start testing, you will see that the color changes are different and because of what you see with the cabbage "litmus" paper, you'll be able to determine what color of your alternative "litmus" paper shows acid and what color shows you an alkali.
to determine if a substance is acidic, basic or neutral in nature
Blue litmus paper would be used and if the chemical is an acid the litmus paper would turn red.
Blue litmus turned into red by acids. So you have to blue litmus.
The main use of litmus is to test whether a solution is acidic or alkaline. Wet litmus paper can also be used to test water-soluble gases; the gas dissolves in the water and the resulting solution colors the litmus paper. For instance, ammonia gas, which is alkaline, colors the red litmus paper blue. Chemical reactions other than acid-base reaction can also cause a color-change to litmus paper. For instance, chlorine gas turns blue litmus paper white - the litmus paper is bleached.[5] This reaction is irreversible and therefore the litmus is not acting as an indicator in this situation
yes a blue litmus paper turns red when put into an acid
You would have to look at the nurk of the base and the whapple of the acid and i it is an xx and yy it would distinguish because then it dismanages it but otherwise if it is xy yx then it physicaly can't distinguish experimentally without tasting it.
A litmus paper is a indicator that is used to test for acids or bases
litmus paper is genrally used to verify whether a substance is acid or base
Litmus paper.
Blue litmus paper would be used and if the chemical is an acid the litmus paper would turn red.
Blue litmus turned into red by acids. So you have to blue litmus.
Because if you only use red litmus paper and the solution you tested kept the paper red, you would think that the solution would also make the blue litmus paper turn red too. But what if the solution was neutral? Then the blue litmus paper would stayblue instead of turn red. Thats why you need to use both blue and red litmus paper.
Litmus paper
by using an indicator like litmus paper!!!
After studying the color of litmus at different pH.
Without an advanced technical method they use pH paper for quick answer. A more accurate method is to use a pH meter.
pH papers are used to find pH of solutions, not litmus paper.
hey yes so my chemistry teacher said use litmus paper from GILLYYou use litmus paper.
