Dunno if this is what you mean:

The scientific method:

1. Identify a question (e.g. How long can a plant survive without water?)

2. Form a hypothesis based knowledge. (e.g. the plant will die without water based on my observation of grass turning brown during the summer)

3. Experiment to test the hypothesis (e.g. leave the plant without water, and check for signs of death every 2 days and take not of observation.

A control is set up to compare to the test subject (e.g. a similar plant is watered regularly while the test subject is not)

4. Consider data from the experiment (e.g. after 4 days the tips of the leaves started to turn brown and after 8).

5. Conclusion based on data (e.g. as time went on the leaves turned brown, withered and fell off. The stem also withered. I conclude that plant need water to survive and it took 2 weeks for these changes to occur. The watered plant did not show any of these changes).

However, clinical laboratory science typically involves a broader scope of work, including more advanced testing techniques and the ability to interpret results.
