Here's a simple example of displacement reaction : MgCl2 + Ca --> CaCl2 + Mg

If we break the reaction down into ionic reactions, it would be :

Mg(2+) + 2e --> Mg (This is reduction because Magnesium receives electrons)

Ca --> Ca(2+) + 2e (This is oxidation because Oxygen loses electrons)

The 2 Chlorine ions act as the spectator ions throughout the reaction as they are not changed before and after the reaction (they are charged 1- each).

When will a double displacement reaction not occur?

A double displacement reaction not occur when an element replace another element only in one molecule.

What must be produced for a double displacement reaction to occur?

A precipitate, water, or a gas must be produced for a double displacement reaction to occur.

What the single replacement reaction of fe plus C2H3O2?

A single replacement reaction will not occur. In a single replacement reaction, either a metal will replace another metal in a compound, or an anion will replace another anion in a compound. Click on the related link to see the Wikipedia article on single displacement (single replacement).

What get if you mix the alum and sodium chloride?

Sodium is more reactive than aluminium no displacement reaction would be expected. The displacement reaction would be written as :- Al + 3NaCl= AlCl3+3Na)

What must be produced for a double-displacement reaction to occur?

A precipitate, water, or a gas must be produced for a double displacement reaction to occur.

When does displacement reaction occur?

When one element replaces another element in a compound during a chemical reaction

How can a table listing of metals in an activity series be useful for prending whether a chemical reaction will occur?

An activity series of metals can predict whether a replacement (displacement) reaction will occur. You use the activity series to compare the reactivity of different metals in order to predict whether a replacement reaction will occur. A metal that is above another metal in the series will replace that metal in a compound.

What chemical change occurs when a more reactive substance replaces a less reactive substance in a compound?

It is a single replacement (displacement) reaction. For example: Does the following reaction occur?Al(s) + CuSO4(aq) --> Al2(SO4)3(aq) + Cu(s)According to the metal reactivity series, aluminum is above copper on the list, so it is more reactive and will replace (displace) copper in the copper sulfate solution. So this reaction will occur.

What is the common way reactions occur?

Examples of chemical reactions: neutralization, thermal decomposition, synthesis, single displacement, double displacement.

What happens in a halogen displacement reaction?

In a halogen displacement reaction, one halogen displaces another in a compound. Whether or not the reaction occurs depends on the reactivity of the halogens. The order of reactivity is the same as the order of the elements from top to bottom in the halogen group (group 7/VIIA), so fluorine is the most reactive and iodine is the least reactive halogen.Example: Will the following single displacement (single replacement) reaction occur?#Cl2 + 2NaBr --> Br2 + 2NaClYes. The reaction will occur because Cl is above Br on the periodic table, so it is more reactive than Br so it will displace (replace) Br in the compound NaBr.Example:Will the reverse reaction take place?Br2 + 2NaCl --> Cl2 + 2NaBrNo. Br is below Cl on the periodic table, so it cannot displace (replace) Cl from the NaCl compound.

How does single replacement occur in the industry?

Most batteries work via a single replacement reaction.

List and define replacement in chemistry?

There are two types of replacements in Chemistry. There are single and double replacements. A single replacement is when an element replaces another element within a compound, but in order for this reaction to occur the elemet that is being replaced must be less active than the element that is being replaced. This can be determined using an activity series. A double replacement is when two compounds switch their elements: NaF + AuCl --> NaCl + AuF. (This reaction may not actually occur, it is just a demonstration of how the elements replace eachother). Finally, within these reactions if pure water (H2O) is formed the reaction is classified as a neutralization and a no reaction. !
