I'll give a non chemist answer but a wise answer...
logically, you are covering it with a mixture (correct this If Im wrong), preventing it to have contact with the oxygen in the atmosphere. Therefore preventing the iron to oxidize :)
Since rust forms only when the iron comes into contact with oxygen, when you paint the iron gate, the paint serves as a shield to protect the iron gate from coming into contact with the oxygen in the air, and therefore painting on an iron gate prevents it from rusting.
Paint trowels and other iron objects protect the surface from moisture and air which are the factors of rust, and hence prevents rusting.
paint it
It decreases rusting but doesn't totally prevent it.
The paint is applied to form a protective barrier between the iron gate and the weather. This is to prevent the iron from oxidising (rust) and corrodin, also on a more pleasant note, it looks nice
Galvanising or painting both prevent iron from rusting. Painting is less expensive but also less permanent and the treatment needs to be repeated as the paint flakes off.
well according to me it is supposed to be coated with paint, so that it doesn't rust but there can be other ways too. painting is the best.
Iron (and Steel) Rusting is actually a chemical proccess where oxegen bonds to the Iron. Applying grease will prevent the oxegen from getting too the Iron.
How is iron gate is prevented from rusting
Prevents contact of Iron with oxygen and water
Coating prevent the iron from contacting air and moisture. So it prevents iron from rusting.

Rusting of iron can be prevented by painting, oiling, greasing, galvanising, chrome plating, anodising or making alloys
Iron can be prevented from rust not only by painting but also by coating the iron byzinc . But when we paint iron ,the hydrated oxide presented in the rust iron(Fe2O3.2H2O)can be prevented . Reaction of the iron with air ,water Etc can be prevented.
to prevent rusting of the iron
By preventing rusting of iron in bus not being sarcastic at all
Iron objects are painted before use to prevent them from rusting. Paint does not let the moisture to get inside it and prevent iron's quality from rusting.
No, after painting iron can not make a strong bonding with concrete, the purpose of painting is the prevention of rusting but rusting process occurs in presence of carbon dioxide and moisture, when iron bars are sealed in concrete the rusting is not possible.
zinc prevents rusting of iron by the process galvanisation
