One atom gives the other atom an electron(s). This makes the other atom the opposite charge of the first atom. Being opposites causes them to be attracted to each other and they form an ionic bond.

A chemical ionic bond is formed through electrostatic attraction between two ions charged with different signs. Therefore two ions that are charged with opposite electric currents will attract each other and form a chemical ionic bond.
