Each atom has its own elemental 'symbol' or 'formula', there are more than 92 elements: from number 1. Hydrogen (H) to number 92. Uranium (U).

Examples: O for oxygen, C for carbon, N for nitrogen atoms.

The formula of an element details the amount of atoms in one molecule of that element. The difference between a chemical symbol and formula of an element is that the symbol gives only what the element is, the formula details how many atoms in one molecule. An example of a formula is O2 , the example of the chemical symbol for that same element is O.

I think the answer is in the Periodic Table where the elements are (obviously) there are one, two or three letters in each box in bold they are the formulas
