I have also been looking for this (that's how i came across this) and so far i have found out:
that it is made from the residue left over in a fractioning column.
hope this helps in some way, sorry for the lack of detail.

∙ 14y agoBitumen is made by the distillation of crude oil. It is a sticky semi-solid form of petroleum that is used for various applications such as road construction and waterproofing. The distillation process separates bitumen from other components of crude oil based on their boiling points.
The bitumen ductility test is conducted to assess the ability of bitumen to deform without breaking or cracking at elevated temperatures. This test helps determine the suitability of bitumen for use in road construction by evaluating its flexibility and durability under different environmental conditions.
The concentration of thorium in bitumen can vary depending on the source, but typically it is found in trace amounts. Studies have shown that thorium levels in bitumen are generally low and not considered a significant environmental or health risk.
Bitumen is typically black or dark brown in color compared to smaller hydrocarbons, which are often colorless or light in color. This difference in color is due to the higher molecular weight and complexity of bitumen compared to smaller hydrocarbons.
Bitumen (asphalt) (tar) is a mixture of chemicals left over at the end of a distillation process. As it is not a pure substance (a single chemical), we cannot provide you with a chemical formula.
Bitumen is not obtained from naphtha. Bitumen is a naturally occurring substance that is commonly derived from crude oil through the distillation process. Naphtha, on the other hand, is a liquid hydrocarbon mixture that is typically produced during the refining of crude oil.

Yes, asphalt is made from bitumen, a type of petroleum.
why bitumen is used
Mustek manufactures a variety of packed bitumen products. Their bitumen products are produced at the Europoort refinery in Rotterdam, Germany. They produce 3 types of bitumen: penetration bitumen, oxidized bitumen, and hard bitumen.
Bitumen is use as fuel.
Typically, bitumen and "asphalt" are interchangeable.

ASTM D6847 gives the procedure for it
'asphalt' refers to a mixture of mineral aggregate and bitumen (bitumen)is the black liquid which is extracted from the crude oil....
cut black bitumen needs a solvent to dilute it whereas emulsion doesn't.
