Real nuru gel is made from nori seaweed. It is VERY hard to find and takes about 20 minutes to prepare.
Chemical alternatives to Nori under various brand names such as Nuru and Numa as commonly found. They contain negligible amount of seaweed, a very high proportion of water and some chemicals added to mimic the consistency of the original Nori gel.
Nori gel is edible and safe. Commercial Nuru gel is NOT due to the chemical components used in it's formulation.
I have used a chemical nuru gel, I found it drying and personally I would not even want it on my skin again.
