The sugar cane stems are cut and taken to the processing plant where they are crushed. During crushing, a liquid if forced out of the stems. The liquid is separated from the remains of the crushed stems by a machine which spins the mixture. During the spinning, the solid stems stay in the machine and the liquid is spun out through holes, rather like the spin cycle of a washing machine.
