That when you pass it to a compound the ending of a word changes from
ine (chlorine) to ide (chloride).
No: "Sodium chlorine" is simply the names of two elements written adjacent to one another. The compound formed between these two elements is named "sodium chloride" Since this compound is ionically bonded, it is not strictly molecular.
sodium chloride: table salt, or common salt sodium carbonate: washing soda
Ionic bonds are named by combining the names of the two elements involved, with the cation (positive ion) listed first followed by the anion (negative ion). For example, sodium chloride is the name of the compound formed from the ionic bond between sodium (Na+) and chloride (Cl-) ions.
The name is simply Sodium, since metals names dont change when they change into an ion.SFe sodium iron
Compounds can be written using either chemical formulas (e.g. H2O for water) or systematic names based on IUPAC nomenclature rules (e.g. sodium chloride for NaCl).
Sodium chloride is NaCl. Sodium hypochlorite is NaClO.

No they are not. For starters, their names are different. Secondly, in one molecule of sodium chloride (NaCl), there is one atom of sodium to each chloride atom. In sodium hydroxide (NaOH), there is one sodium atom, one oxygen atom, and one hydrogen atom. Sodium chloride is known as salt, and sodium hydroxide is known as lye, or caustic soda.
Sodium chloride or NaCl
Common table salt is known as sodium chloride, with the chemical formula NaCl.
Table salt and baking soda.
sodium
Because pure sodium in it's basic form is actually a metal. Chemistry is a study of the Elements and how they form to make compounds. The elements are the basic chemicals and are found listed in a chemical chart. Before the chemicals were discovered and understood and then named, people gave them simple or everyday names like "salt", "vinegar" and other type names. Salt is made from Sodium (Na) and Chloride(Cl) and the resulting compound has the chemical formula NaCl and name sodium chloride. Go to the library and check out a book on Chemistry.
sodium chloride: table salt, or common salt sodium carbonate: washing soda
Sodium Chloride is commonly know as salt. Sodium bicarbonate is commonly known as baking soda. The uses are endless.
In the case of NaCl.the valency of sodium and chloride is two.so you dont have to specify it.but where as in Icl the valency different so you call it as iodine monochloride.to denote the presence of single chloride atom. Sodium chloride is an ionic compound, so you don't write 'mono' 'di' 'tri' etc. in the name. MgCl2 would simply be magnesium chloride, not magnesium dichloride. Covalent compounds such as ICl sometimes have 'mono' 'di' or 'tri' in their name, but ionic compounds don't. == == == == == ==
