Liquid Propane

There will be a TW on the side of the cylinder this is the tare weight the weight of the cylinder empty. (TW 18.5) would be an 18.5 pound empty cylinder. A full cylinder will weigh 20 pounds more than the tare weight. Even with an OPD valve a 20 pound cylinder will still hold 20 pounds 95% of the time. If you exchange your tank they are only putting 15-18 pounds of propane in a cylinder that was designed to hold 20 pounds. If you have your cylinder refilled make sure they weigh it on a scale as they fill it and put twenty pounds in it the OPD SHOULD STOP THE PUMP AT THE SAME TIME THE SCALE TIPS.(The weight of th filling valve must be added usually 4-5 pounds). Also propane is stored in the tank as a liquid you use the vapor from the top of tank in your grill. As the vapor pressure lowers the liquid will boil into vapor when the vapor pressure is gone the cylinder is completely empty.

A 20-pound tank contains about 4.1 gallons of LP, which weighs about 17 pounds. (LP has a specific gravity -- at 25 degrees C -- about half that of water.) The next time I run my tank empty, I'll weigh it. But I would be willing to bet it weighs about four pounds.

How much pressure in a 30 lb propane tank?

You cannot use output pressure to tell how full a tank is. The pressure will remain constant until it's just about out of propane. You can use weight, if you know how much it weighs when empty, and when full - then it's just simple math.

What does a full 5 gal propane tank weigh?

A full 5-gallon propane tank typically weighs around 38-40 pounds, including the weight of the propane gas itself. However, the actual weight can vary slightly depending on the specific tank and manufacturer.

Why is a 20 lb. propane tank called a 20 pound?

The term "20 lb." refers to the weight of propane that the tank can hold when filled to its maximum capacity. The tank itself, when empty, may weigh around 18-20 pounds, hence the designation as a 20 lb. propane tank.

How do you find how much propane you have left using hot water and how does it work?

By pouring hot water on a propane cylinder you are heating the metal cylinder. The liquid propane in the cylinder is cold and forms condensation on the outside of the cylinder showing the level of propane remaining in the tank much like condensation forming on a glass of ice water on a hot day.

Is there any way to pressurize a propane tank that is still full of propane but has lost its pressure?

If there is propane in the tank there will be pressue. It can't lose its pressure. If one has a propane tank that has "lost its pressure" even though there is propane in the tank, there is almost certainly a problem with the valve (assuming the individual attempting to use the tank knows how). There is an overfill valve inside the tank. It is a component entirely separate from the external valve that a user controls. Let a propane company sort it out. They're the experts, and they want you to come in so they can help. They live for stuff like this because they are professionals.

How much does a 250 gallon propane tank weigh?

Depends on the manufacturer and specification standard of the tank, but roughly speaking at this capacity, there is about 2 pounds of steel for each gallon of capacity, so vacuum purged, the tank would weight approximately 400 lb. If it is filled with propane, each gallon of propane is 4.2 pounds at 60 degrees. Tanks are generally not filled beyond 80%, so maximum fill would be 672 pounds. Thus, full tank should be approximately 1000 pounds +/-.
