Best Answer

Evaporation is recommended.

Firstly, put salt and sand into water and stir well to dissolve the salt.

Secondly, filter out the sand from the salt solution using a filter funnel and filter paper.

Thirdly, place the beaker of salt solution on a Bunsen burner until it evaporates fully and only salt crystals are left.

Lastly, heat the salt crystals and sand until it is dry.

Table salt is soluble so take the mixture and add water to it. The table salt will get dissolved. Now pour the whole mixture in a filter paper above a beaker. Now the residue above the paper is the sand, rinse it with additional water to remove the table salt on the sand grains. Now take the water in which the table salt is dissolved and heat it with a burner and the water will evaporate and leave the table salt behind. This is the best method to separate them.

Why do you separate a mixture of salt water and sand?

Since salt is soluble in water then you have to separate the mixture from sand first and this is done by filtration. The sand will be left in the filter paper and the filtererd solution would be that of salt and water. To get the salt you would then have to heat the solution and the water will evaporate leaving the salt behind.Filter Paper
