I was wondering about this myself. I know in the Netherlands it is sold as "Glassex" and in the UK as "Windolene." Although a bottle of Windolene looks exactly the same as a bottle of Windex, it does not say anywhere that it is marketed by Johnson. I do not know about other countries.

Is ammonia-d a disinfectant?

I emailed SC Johnson because I could not find this chemical name anywhare either. :) Dear Heidi, Thank you for asking about Ammonia-D® found in some of our Windex® products. We always appreciate hearing from our consumers. Ammonia-D® is the trademark name for the ammonia in Windex®. The 'D' is part of the trademark name. While your email did not indicate which Windex® product you were asking about, you should be aware that most of our Windex® products are glass and surface cleaners only, and not all formulas contain ammonia. If you would like to clean and disinfect/sanitize your surfaces, I would recommend using Windex® Antibacterial Cleaner. This product kills 99.9% of household bacteria in seconds, including: - Klebsiella pneumoniae - Listeria monocytogenes - Staphylococcus aureuas (Staph) - Streptococcus pyogenes (Strep) - Enterobacter aerogenes - Escherichia coli (E. coli) - Salmonella enterica (Salmonella) I hope this information will be helpful to you, and invite you to visit www.windex.com to learn more about all of our Windex® products. I have happily sent a full value complimentary coupon to the address provided, for you to try Windex® Antibacterial. We hope you enjoy using this coupon. What is the example of chemical hazzard?

A chemical hazard is anything that can harm someone.Think about Windex, a window cleaner. Windex is a chemical hazard, but people use it all the time with no adverse side effects, except for maybe their window being so clean they run into it. Why does Windex not harm people? Because it's one of those chemical hazards that is OK if you use it how it's supposed to be used. Clean with Windex all day, you'll be fine. However, if you start drinking Windex, you're going to get a combination of symptoms like nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, that sort of thing. Essentially that's your body trying to expel all of the Windex you just drank. That doesn't sound very pleasant, but it wouldn't be lethal. However, if the window cleaner contains something like ammonia and you drank it, it could have potentially lethal consequences. Then there are chemical hazards that are never OK to come in direct contact with, like corrosive acids. Acids come in various strengths, but the strongest acids are known as Superacids. One type of Superacid is called Magic Acid. Now, despite the name being awesome, if you handled Magic Acid without the appropriate protective gear, you would get severe burns. So basically, any cleaning substance can be considered a chemical hazard. That's why so many things have warning labels. Then there are things like the above mentioned corrosive acids, and then there are mutagenic agents, carcinogenic agents, and other things that are horrible chemical hazards, but fortunately you won't have to come in contact with those unless you go into a career involving such things. And in that case, you'd be equipped with safety materials.

Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the shower doors, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off with a microfiber cloth or sponge. For tough residue, mix baking soda with water to form a paste, apply it to the doors, scrub gently, then rinse and dry.
