In order to be a secondary alcohol, the carbon with the alcohol moiety must be bonded to two other carbons.

There are only two carbons total in ethanol, so it cannot possibly be a secondary alcohol. The smallest/lowest molecular weight secondary alcohol is cyclopropanol, which has three carbons: one for the alcohol group, and two others for it to be bonded to.

No, they are different functional groups but an organic compound may have both phenolic and alcoholic functional groups.

Is a 2-methylpentan-3-ol a primary or secondary or tertiary alcohol?

it is a secondary alcohol

Can C3H6O be a secondary alcohol?

Methanol is a primary alcohol. You can't have a secondary alcohol until you get to propanol, where 1-propanol is a primary alcohol and 2-propanol is a secondary alcohol (also called sec-propyl alchohol or isopropanol). Secondary alcohols are alcohols where the -OH group is attached to a carbon that has two carbon groups attached to it. The first tertiary alcohol is t-butyl alcohol, otherwise known as 2-methyl-2-propanol. In that molecule the -OH group is attached to a carbon that has three carbon groups attached to it.

What is the oxidation of alcohol?

Oxidation of a primary alcohol results in an Aldahyde, 2 molecules of primary alcohol oxidized results in an ether, oxidization of a secondary alcohol end product is a ketone. Is ethnaol used in liquor?

Ethanol is the primary type of alcohol in alcoholic beverages.

What is isopropenol?

It's a secondary alcohol and a major component in rubbing alcohol. Unlike ethanol, it's acutely toxic for human injestion.

Is an cyclohexanol primary or secondary alcohol?

Yes. Any compound containing an R-OH group will have a name ending in "ol". These are all alcohols.

Why does secondary alcohol react with potassium permanganate more quickly than primary alcohol?

Because a primary alcohol oxidation is a two step process. First going to an aldehyde then to a carboxylic acid. A secondary alcohol is a one step process that produces a ketone.

What is the primary alcohol which gives iodoform test?

Ethanol is the only primary alcohol to give the iodoform test due to the presene of methyl group attached to alpha carbon atom.

Which alcohol beverage is fermented twice?

Wine. During this primary fermentation, which often takes between one and two weeks, yeast converts most of the sugars in the grape juice into ethanol (alcohol). After the primary fermentation, the liquid is transferred to vessels for the secondary fermentation. Also transferred to oak barrels and allowed to 'age.'

What is the relative reactivity of Secondary and tertiary alcohols towards oxidation with potassium permanganate?

primary alcohol reacts the fastest towards oxidation followed by secondary alcohol and tertiary alcohol.

Can ethanol dissolve in alcohol?

Ethanol is already an alcohol.
