Do you realise that 5 isomeres exist of pentene. Besides of small relative differences in (non)polarity they all are rather nonpolar. I guess the following row is about in increasing, but very small polarity

  1. 1-pentene
  2. 2-pentene
  3. 3-methyl-1-butene
  4. 2-methyl-1-butene
  5. 2-methyl-2-butene

Is ethanol soluble in pentanol?

Yes, ethanol is soluble in pentanol due to their similar chemical structures and both being polar molecules. This allows them to form intermolecular interactions such as hydrogen bonds, making them miscible in each other.

Which is less soluble in water 1-pentanol or 1-heptanol?

"Alcohols, ethers and epoxides having less than or 5 carbon atoms are water soluble because they each have an oxygen atom capable of hydrogen bonding." "Alcohols, ethers and epoxides having more than 5 carbon atoms are insoluble because the non-polar alkyl portion is too large to dissolve in water" Source: Organic chemistry (second edition) by Janice Gorzynski Smith

Is toothpaste non-polar?

Toothpaste is typically a mixture of polar and non-polar substances. The surfactants in toothpaste are usually polar, while other ingredients such as thickeners and abrasives can be non-polar.

Is the following combinations expected to be soluble or insoluble polar solute and non-polar solvent?

A polar solute is expected to be soluble in a non-polar solvent. This is because "like dissolves like" – polar molecules tend to dissolve in polar solvents, and non-polar molecules dissolve in non-polar solvents.

What happen when a non-polar solute is mixed in a non-polar solvent?

the non polar solute gets dissolved as non polar solutes tend to dissolve in non polar solvents than in polar solvents. for eg: benzene(non polar solute) gets dissolved in carbon tetrachloride which is a non polar solvent but not in water because it is a polar solvent.
