Runaway pepper is a chemical reaction because when you drop the detergent into the water, it reduces the cohesiveness between the water and the pepper. The soap breaks the surface tension of the water and the tension on the rest of the water pulls the floating pepper away from the soap. In other words, it reduces the pulling action on the pepper and the pepper appears to run away from the detergent. But the water around the edges (untouched by the detergent) still has its full pulling strength.

I have a sneaking suspision if a chicken mulligatawny is subjected to ground black pepper it will run....oh it will run!

What chemical reactions are exothermic?

Any chemical reaction that produces energy is exothermic. A erection that requires energy is endothermic. For instance, NaCl + H20 -> HCl + NaOH is endothermic. Run the equation the opposite direction, HCl _+ NaOH -> NaCl + H20 and it's an exothermic reaction.

What steps are needed to determine the amount of excess reagent in a chemical reaction?

To determine the amount of excess reagent in a chemical reaction, first calculate theoretical values for your reaction to get an estimation of how much of your excess reagent will be left once the limiting reagent is used. Then run the actual experiment and measure!

What evidence of chemical change is visible when electricity is run through water?

Water can be chemically changed, for instance, when an electric current is run through a sample, separating it into oxygen and hydrogen gas. Chemical change requires a chemical reaction, a process whereby the chemical properties of a substance are altered by a rearrangement of the atoms in the substance.Added:What is visible: it is gas bubles of hydrogen and oxygen coming out from the electrodes: O2 at the positive anode, H2 at the negative cathode.

Do you always need more than one reactant or more than one product to have a chemical reaction?

A simple definition of a chemical reaction is a reaction in which chemical bonds are broken and/or formed. Under the right conditions (temperature, pressure and catalyst) the following reaction may run: 2CH4 -> C2H6 + H2 Although in this case two molecules of the same reactant was needed, only one reactant was needed. So, the direct answer to your question is no.

How do cars run on chemical reaction?

Your car runs on a chemical reaction because the combustion of gas is actually a chemical reaction. As the fuel turns to a spark or flame, the reaction becomes chemical

In what kind of reaction can the products form the reactants?

The type reaction that changes the reactants into products is called a chemical reaction. Most chemical reactions can run forward or backward.

What does a enzyme do in chemical reaction?

An enzyme generally lowers the activation energy necessary for a reaction to proceed. This in turn may cause more of the reactants to go to products.

Can you make a chemical reaction without making the product an inert gas?

Yes, you can make a chemical reaction without making the product an inert gas. For example, if you run an electric current through Hydrogen and Oxygen, the product is Water, or H2O. Water is not an inert (noble) gas, so you can make a chemical reaction without making the product an inert gas.

Is runaway one word?

The noun or adjective is one word runaway (child, vehicle, or reaction).Used as a verb, it is two words, run away or ran away, where away is an adverb.

How do batteries generate electricity?

Batteries make electricity by a chemical reaction. Eventually the reaction completes and the battery is said to have run down or gone dead. A car's alternator or generator charges the battery by reversing the reaction while the engine is running.

Is the burning of gasoline in a car a chemical change or physical change?

Answer The burning of gasoline is a chemical change.

Is it a physical or chemical change when you use an air pump?

That is a physical change - at least the pump is (air in, air out, with no chemical change). The energy required to run the pump probably will come from a chemical reaction though: an electric generator burning fuel to run the generator or food being digested and converted to energy in the muscles if it is a person powering it
