Sulphur in its elemental state should pose no problem to humans. It is necessary for nutrition.

H2S (rotten egg gas) is a dangerous gas, and one of its effects is to soon paralyse the sense of smell, rendering the person unaware of the hazard. A few deaths in hot thermal pools have been attributed to this, particularly in enclosed rooms.

SO2 , Sulphur dioxide is generated from burning sulphur. This is an unpleasant acrid gas, and soon combines with water to produce sulphuric acid. It must be considered dangerous. This is the classic "acid rain' that destroys sculptures and poisons lakes and forests.
