It means that it will mix with water or can dissolve in water.

∙ 11y agoI presume you mean, "Is water soluble in water?". The answer is no. This may sound strange, but it doesn't. Chemicals that are soluble in water have a state symbol of (aq), but water has a state symbol of (l).

∙ 7y agoIt all depends. Biochemists analyze proteins with experiments they carry out with solubilized protein samples. Enzymes, for example are often investigated by isolating them from animal organs, tissue or from yeast and bacteria. The proteins need to be solubilized in order to subject them to functional assays. Solubilized, rather than aggregated.
It turns out that protein molecules require lots of care to keep them happy and in solution. A sample of protein solution may aggregate when it's not properly taken care of, such as exposure too high (or low) temperature, or too acidic or too basic solution. It almost seems as if these proteins seem to have quite a temperament. Really though, keeping proteins soluble requires just a proper choice of solution features, such as pH, salt concentration and temperature. The proper values for these parameters can be determined experimentally. Further details about Protein Solubility can be found at: http://www.dilyx.com/resources/protein_solubility_basics
Why is protein solubility important? Check out what happens, when you put lime juice into your milk - you'll get a whitish precipitated protein material. The same type of aggregated, and non-functional protein precipitation can form when vaccines are stored for too long or when biologics medicines such as insulin is stored at a high temperature. This is why scientists spend a lot of time figuring out each protein's "sweet spot".

∙ 12y agoYes, but it is not a solution: a homogeneous two (or more) component system: The solute dissolves in the solvent.

∙ 14y agoNo, there are so many solid substances which are insoluble in water as pure metals, diamond , sulphur.
