This is a very convenient method but its use is restricted. This method is suitable for estimating nitrogen in those organic compounds in which nitrogen is linked to carbon and hydrogen. The method is not used in the case of nitro, azo and azoxy compounds. The method is extensively used for estimated nitrogen in food, fertilizers and agricultural products.

Principle:- the method is based on the fact that when the nitrogenous compound is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid in presence of copper sulphate, the nitrogen present in the compound is quantitatively converted to ammonium sulphate. The ammonium sulphate so formed is decomposed with excess of alkali and the ammonia evolved is estimated volumetrically. The percentage of nitrogen is then calculated from the amount of ammonia.

By this method organic compound containing nitrogen is worked with conc. sulphuric acid which converts the nitrogen into Ammonia the ammonia thus produced isestimated by titration with standard acid and finally nitrogen is estimated.

The chemical formula of nitrogen triiodide is NI3.

Is nitrogen dioxide inorganic or organic?

Organic compounds contain carbon atoms. Nitric acid (HNO3) contains no such carbon atoms, so it is inorganic.

Of course, in many organic and inorganic compounds.

Do you calculate total organic nitrogen by adding nitrate nitrogen and nitrite nitrogen?

I believe you determine Organic Nitrogen by subtracting Ammonia Nitrogen from Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen.

What are inorganic nitrogen compounds?

Any nitrogen compound that does not contain carbon is an inorganic nitrogen compound. Common examples are the oxides with formula NO, NO2, and N2O5; nitric acid and nitrate salts (unless their cations are organic); ammonia and ammonium salts (unless their anions are organic); and metal nitrides.

Is N2O5 an organic compound?

Organic Chemistry is by definition "The Chemistry of compounds of Carbon". Note octane, and lipid chains; carbon may polymerize. Considering Nitrogen, just add it to the above to obtain Biochemistry!

What kind of nitrogen are turned into ammonium in a Kjedahl digestion?

TknOrganic nitrogen compounds are turned into ammonium. Kjeldahl nitrogen is organic nitrogen and ammonia nitrogen added together. When the pH is neutralized ammonium is converted to ammonia.

Hydrazine is not an organic compound. It is N2H4, a compound of nitrogen and hydrogen, an organic substance must contain carbon

H2O is an example of an Inorganic Compound.?

Organic compounds consist of : Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen (CHO). H20 (Water) does not contain the three elements required so that makes it an inorganic compound. other examples of this are nitrogen and carbon dioxide .
